I’m working on a new theme for this blog and I decided to start using it from now. Even if I’m not completely happy with it yet I think it’s good enough to start using and it’s many times better than the old one. It has widget support for example, which the old one did not.
The idea behind having the categories as the main navigation is that it should give a clear indication of what this blog is about and what can be found here. Although at the moment of writing this 99% of the posts are only available under “misc” but that’s because they don’t really have a category at all.
In WordPress, all posts have a category, if you don’t specify a specific one a post gets the category named “Uncategorized”. What I’ve done now is to rename that category to “Misc”(for Miscellaneous) because I think it looks better. I will go through all old posts and give them proper categories. There will still be posts in Misc, but that ’s for posts that goes outside of the other main categories.
I have been sloppy with categorizing and tagging posts, I will improve that so it gets easier to navigate the site and become more inviting to stay here a bit longer. I do get a lot of search engine traffic but I’d like to get people to browse around more once they’ve found the site. Hopefully this theme works better in that sense.
